Overview
If your users cannot see or interact with custom objects in Outreach, the most common reason is missing custom object permissions on their user profile. Custom object permissions determine both which objects users can access and what actions they can perform.
This article explains why access issues occur and how you can fix them by setting up the right permissions.
Common reason for missing access
By default, new custom objects do not inherit permissions. Admins must manually configure permissions for each user profile. If permissions aren’t configured, users will not be able to view, edit, or create records for that object.
How to configure permissions
- Log in to Outreach as an Admin.
- Go to Administration → User Management → Access Control.
- Select the relevant Profile.
- Scroll to the custom object you want to edit.
- Choose the appropriate permission types and levels.
Notes & limitations
- Permissions apply to both the UI and the Public API.
- Profiles cannot be updated in bulk, each one must be configured individually.
- Permissions are unique per object and cannot be inherited.
- To customize access for a specific user, create a new profile.
Additional Information
- For ownership-based governance, ensure your object has at least one user lookup field defined with “This field represents record ownership” enabled.
